Cape Fear Community Land Trust

A nonprofit dedicated to sustaining vibrant, diverse communities by creating housing opportunities for working families.

Since 2009, Cape Fear Community Land Trust has been working to ensure that people who work in our community are also able to live in our community. With an incredible rise in home prices over the past several years, this is becoming less of a reality year after year, making our job all the more vital.

In the years since our inception, we have built eight new homes in partnership with Habitat for Humanity and the City of Wilmington that are all owner-occupied by low-income Wilmingtonians and will remain affordable in perpetuity due to our land trust model. We have built another two new construction homes in partnership with the City of Wilmington that fit beautifully into the neighborhood fabric and offer a sustainable place to live for two families.

We have also renovated thirteen homes since our humble beginnings and oversaw another seven through our partnership with Cape Fear Collective. Each of these homes is now a safe, affordable, sustainable, and beautiful place to call home. These homes remain in the community and are serving the people that live and work in our quaint town.

We are not building large apartment buildings, we are quietly building infill and rehabbing older homes in the community that will stay affordable to working Wilmingtonians for generations. You shouldn’t have to work three jobs to be able to live here, and you shouldn’t have to move away either. Cape Fear Community Land Trust is quietly building hidden affordability into our community so that the people who make our town great also get to live, work, and play here.
