The historic downtown is the host of several events throughout the year. With the background of the Cape Fear River and the architecture of the history buildings, street festivals and fairs can wind around the many shops and restaurants.
DBA sponsors several events on an annual basis; The Wine and Beer Walk in February and September, St. Patricks Day Festival, Rims On The River, American Craft Walk Wilmington, and the Holiday Window Decorating Contest.
The first week in April Wilmington celebrates Azalea Festival ending with the Azalea Street Festival downtown. Look for Riverfest each first week in October held at the River’s edge. Downtown kicks off the Holidays on Water on the day after Thanksgiving each year with the annual tree lighting at the base of Market Street on the Riverfront, followed by Small Business Saturday. Thanks to all the chefs, restaurants and beverage partners for making the first-ever Feast Wilmington such a success! Four unique events over three days in late March, featuring 70 restaurants, 20 breweries, wine, spirits and music by the river.
During the high season you will find the weekly Farmer’s Market on Saturday’s from 8am-1pm on Dock St. and The Historic Market Place on Sunday’s on Front Street from Dock to Market Sts.
Downtown is rarely uneventful. Every week it is the host to shows at music venues, a comedy venue, plays and productions at Thalian Association, Thalian Hall, Wilson Center and the Convention Center.
