Hotel News Will Boost Downtown

Terry Espy, president of Wilmington’s Downtown Business Alliance, is hoping to court a smaller boutique hotel to built on South Water Street, in the site that once housed the Ice House bar.

Espy said building up hotel room inventory is a key step for a city to create a destination downtown. She pointed to Charleston, S.C., where chef-driven restaurants and other attractions followed the addition of lodging for visitors.

“That’s part of the next phase of downtown Wilmington, is you’ve got to give people quality places to stay at a competitive price point,” she said. Read More Here
